Alamo Heights sees its future in the past

Broadway-renovation600Alamo Heights is about to face reality.

For the past nine months, the city has been asking residents and business owners to imagine everything they ever wanted the city to be. The result was a comprehensive plan envisioning an environmentally aware, pedestrian-friendly village where people can shop, work and go to school by walking, bicycling or a taking a short trolley ride. Draft - Proposed Comprehensive Plan

looking_aheadThe City of Alamo Heights Proposed Comprehensive Plan will be presented to the public four times in the month May for public review and comment. The first presentation will be held on Monday, May 4th at 5:30 p.m. during the Planning and Zoning Commission meeting. It will then be presented to City Council during the Monday, May 11th City Council Meeting. The proposed plan will be considered for adoption by the Planning and Zoning Commission on Monday, May 18th and then by City Council on Monday, May 26th. All meetings are to be held in the City Council Chambers at 5:30 p.m.

lookingahead.jpg93 citizens, 30 design professionals, all of City Council, and 8 city staff volunteered their time and gathered on Saturday, January 17 at the Alamo Heights High School Cafeteria to help plan the future of Alamo Heights. The process centered on ten common themes that were identified from the community neighborhood meetings as being of particular interest in terms of the physical design of the community. These ten themes were represented at ten design tables. The facilitators then lead the participants in a focused conversation to determine themes, areas of concern and insights. We'll feature one per week, this week is the Walkability/Connectivity.
