Medina Proposes Resolution in Anti-bullying Legislation

Written by Mike on .

Yesterday, Councilman Cris Medina circulated a Council Consideration Request calling for a resolution in support of David’s Law. The below is a statement from Councilman Medina …

“I’m asking the Mayor and my colleagues on the City Council to pass an official resolution showing our solidarity with and support of this very important legislation. This resolution expresses our support for the family of David Molak, who tragically took his own life last year. I want to see San Antonio join cities around Texas in proclaiming our city an anti-bullying community.

“It was just over a year ago that 16-year-old David Molak took his own life after being the target of bullying at his school. Sadly, David’s story is not an isolated one. With the growth of social media, bullies have become emboldened in their actions to shame the targets of their victims. The nature of social media makes it difficult to find a clear path of legal recourse for the victims bullying. As a result, Texas Senator Jose Menendez introduced SB179 and a bipartisan group of lawmakers, led by Representative Ina Minjarez, introduced the companion HB305.

Known as “David’s Law,” the aim is to fight back against student harassment, bullying, and cyberbullying, by giving those affected a channel for reporting such incidents.”
