Since they now have Alamo Heights Night in San Antonio, can we have Alamo Heights Night in Alamo Heights?

While I commend the persistent digging of Sarah, I believe we have lost sight of the initial issue.
That issue is the lack of disclosure on the part of Mr. Prassel.

From what I heard on the city tapes, the Optimists have offered 50% of the profits returning solely to the AH area, a family oriented affair and limited attendance for crowd control. It seems to me to be a return to what the Night on 09 was when it started, a good time in 09.

Neither the City of Alamo Heights nor the Rotary can control all the events that occur on the same nights during Fiesta. Because the Roatry event is not an officially sanctioned Fiesta Commission event, anyone could hold an event on the same night and Rotary would not be able to influence that decision.

They also should not be able to influence what happens in Alamo Heights.

Mr. Prassel needs to make a full disclosure, set aside his personal feelings and remove himself from the discussion.

I was glad to see the Rotary admit that there wasn't a 50% "take" by the city and that they were actually satisfied with the terms they reached with the city for 2010-2012.(Page 2, paragraph 3)

This should completely dispel the 09her myth that the City was "demanding" 50%.

Rotary also disclosed that even though they were in negotiations with AH, they were looking for a bigger venue - again proof that they weren't too serious in their negotiations

Why did they claim they donated $10,380 in 2009 to the AH Dare Program when it does not appear anywhere on their list of contributions?

Great idea AG! Friday night will be Family Night, Saturday night will be a thank-you party for the Optimists who are giving us 50%, and the noisy Rotarians who graciously left. Even AH09ner and spider can come.

09ner - I hate to tell but I posted the 4 way test some days ago. My family is 3rd generation Rotarians and I am guessing by your tone and remarks you are not. Your post does not come across as humble or very Rotarian protocol or manners. I think Sarah did both the public and Rotary Club a huge favor. She requested basic information and posted it, for all to review. We all owe her a big thank you for trying to set the record straight. I think you owe her an apology she did nothing wrong, matter of fact she did not have to share the information. Have you passed the 4 way test today!

The Rotary 4 way test

1. Is it the TRUTH?

2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?

3. Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

4. Will it be BENEFICAL to all concerned?

SO because they are so benevolent they feel the need to block another organization from having an event in another city, Alamo Heights, on the same night because they want the funds for themselves? That is bad PR for rotary. This is the low road. Trust me, no one from AH went Incarnate Word by bus to go to Rotary Night in San Antonio. They can call it whatever they want. Alamo Heights Night it is not. Alamo Heights Night is in Alamo Heights on the Friday before fiesta.

I respect the CM and Mayor for answering the calls for change from the residents of Alamo heights about this event. It was out of control, didn’t represent the best of our city, and upset many neighbors near the pool.

Why do we need to protect Rotary by not having a party in Alamo heights for kids, families, and city charities? If we are concerned about charity dollars then the same amount, or more, would be collected by having two parties on the same night. The split concept as discussed in the last city council meeting on this is a fallacy. The concept was generated by Rotary the city council members protecting them and the rest of council bought into it. Rotary and the city council members are saying we need to give up our party night because of we feel guilty.

This all points to a hidden effort to get Rotary back into Alamo Heights without the contract requirements.

I, along with many others, don’t feel guilty and would like to move on and plan our own event in our city on the Friday before fiesta. Rotary is a great organization, but this event and this city should not be theirs to control. I would like our city council first to represent our city and its place in fiesta history, and not a charity organization.

I hate to deflate Sarah's balloon, but ...since every comment since the Club's release has been positive, I think Rotary deserves the applause - and it alone.

A careful look at any of over 33,000 Rotary Club's websites worldwide will uncover its 4-Way Test to which all Rotarians adhere and which all Clubs take very seriously.

Number 1 on the list of 4: "Is it the Truth?"

It should have been to no one's surprise that what the Rotary Club of AH professed in oral or written form was the TRUTH. DUH, DUH, DUH.

So thanks should go out to Rotarians who live up to their motto...which can not be said of untold others in private and public life.

Y'all get the credit for the answers that the Rotary gave us, even tho they didn't have to. Julie made it very clear that the answers were being provided because of the bloggers. Perhaps we should use this approach again on other issues.
