Thanks Redneck, excellent point.

You do have to remember that the city bond election would have been paid in full by the city residents. The school bond will be spread out over a larger area. I am not picking a side yet but wanted to point that out.

Sick and Tired makes a very good point. When a group makes claims adamantly in public and then doe not make good on those claims, they lose all credibility. No one wants to associate with a group known for making false claims, as AHNA did with the 5 million dollar plan.

How could you know and make that claim unless you had at least produced a preliminary plan that could be costed out? Unless, of course, the real purpose was to win the war on City Hall at all costs. Something like a scorched earth policy. Say anything you have to to win and know that no one will be able to hold you accountable. I'd say that AHNA won the battle and now is losing the PR war. This makes your membership question the real motives behind any of the groups positions on issues.

Further adding to the waning credibility of AHNA as a watchdog of fiscal responsibility is the very mild response to the school bond issue, which is four times larger than the city facilities. They should view the AHISD bond details as critically as they did City Hall.

You can't have it both ways and still maintain your credibility.

ADMIN - Did AHNA have to pay for their website? I know they tried to suggest that they were paying for the newsletter that was printed and mailed for free.

Not pissed off but when someone comes out and publicly states as a fact that the prodject can be done for half the price just to get the vote. Then when called upon to produce, they act like they don't know what you are talking about. That person takes the whole orginzation that they are with and drags its into the gutter. I'm not saying you ever said it but JJ did and now he and AHNA need to produce it. I'm not holding my breath though.

All I am saying is speculation accomplishes nothing. I do not know what JJ or anyone else is or is not doing. All I said was AHNA is still active. I have never offered a plan, said I can draw up a plan or called in anyone else to do so. ' trolls' get their kicks attacking anyonecand everyone so they can be right no matter what. It appears that those who favored Prop One are truly pussed off.

Well tax payer voter can we now see this impressive half priced plan that was promised or was that just an empty election promise? If so you should and JJ should consider a run at a real office.

Where did you get the idea that I've never accepted or had been a member of AHNA? You still haven't figured out who I am.

Funny how Taxpayer voter and Ignore Bud both are more interested in calling people the same name (troll) than having an intelligent discussion.
...
written by TaxpayerVoter , January 28, 2010
The running commentary may be the reason the website is gone. Why pay tobe abused by trollers. If you are so interested in AHNA why not join it. Yes AHNA is alive. Bud wouldn't care because Bud never accepted AHNA to begin with.

Who knows and who cares where AHNA went? Never offered any positive suggestions that I could see.

AHNA is around somewhere because there was a quote from JJ on the school bond issue. He sure didn't come out against it as forcefully as he did the facilities even thought the amount of money is 4 times the amount of the city facilites.
AHNA only comes out from under the rocks when it is personal for them.

They have done what they set out to do. They stopped the bond election. They promised they were looking out for the employees and had a great plan at half the cost but once the election was over the fell off the planet. Now we are stuck with a out of date and unsafe city complex. In another 8 or 9 years the facilities will be discussed again. At that time the nay sayers will rally the troops and shoot it down. This time it was J.J.. Last time it was Cappy Lawton. In the mean time we have a joke of a city complex!!!!

So I'll admit I've been out of the loop for a while but what happened to the AHNA? All their information on this website has vanished and their website (including the archived issues of "The Advocate") seems to have been shut down.

Anyone know?

I am not an AHNA member. I am not a member of Friends of AH. I am not a Council member or anyone with deep pockets. I am, however, a proud member of the NRA. Guess who I am yet?

You are right - Friends of AH was a PAC and their purpose is now over so they are no more. I'd heard the same was true for AHNA. No newsletter or website anymore. I thought the Election Commission had probably shut them down.
Where is the 5 million dollar plan they had for facilities - didn't they offer to give it to the city?

"The FofAH supporters are taking over this site. Our vote no saved AH millions."

Baloney. You can't rewrite history.

FofAH asked voters to vote "yes" on the boondoggle city all, and raised thousands of dollars from the city council and their friends. FofAH IS the mayor/council and their friends.

FofAH is dead, and none too soon.

Bud the troll deserves no attention. The FofAH supporters are taking over this site.

Our vote no saved AH millions. Agree with AHNA or not, it was the right thing to do. Having said that, let's figure out a way to upgrade the fire and police depts. We all know it needs to be done, but not at the cost this council proposed.

A good mayor should publicly accept the results of this survey and begin a new plan, instead there is a collective silence form the mayor and council.

Maybe we should poll the police and firefighters smell the coffee.

As usual, the reporting was not up to even a passable standard. The survey results are posted on the city website and are worth the read - without the interpretation from the boy wonder reporter.

Re-read the complete survey, Cantu left out the part that the pollsters want a new facility, not a remodel of the existing. All the Council can do to move ahead with what the citizens want is to wait for better economic times, and do a patchwork for now.
...

For all of you who bemoan the fate of the police and fire employees (and blame it all on those who voted "no") why don't you get off your duffs and go on over to city hall and get council to give them the salary increase they were denied this year. That's what really has them all het up, not the facilities.
...
written by Old as Dirt , January 14, 2010
How about we move forward and figure out a way to upgrade the much needed facilities. The longer we wait, the worst this situation becomes. Love my Alamo Heights!

If we hadn't paid Lake Flato we would have had nothing to look at and judge. How can a survey be developed without something to base it upon?

I still go back to the question of doing a survey pre- building - if 1/3 liked modern, 1/3 liked Cottage look and 1/3 liked Spanish - wouldn't somebody lose in the end - or we would have a stall mate that could not be broken and nothing would get done.

Cleareyes: the city gets plenty of our tax money. If you feel like giving them more, go right ahead. The propose plan by for the police and fire depts. by this council was poor and turned off much of the city. It would and could have been passed if they just did more homework. The council should be the ones who are not able to look the firefighters and police officers in the eye!
...

One wonders how much money could have been saved if this survey was done before the city paid Lake/Flato and others.

I still would not be able to look one of our firefighters or police officers in the eyes. Those poor public servents live in a dump. A prisoner lives better than them. I guess the questions is what is the public going to do for them and the answer is nothing. I wish more of my tax money went towards them. I see that Olmos Park and Terrell Hills can make it happen.
