Alamo Heights High School going solar

Through the Alamo Heights Independent School District’s $44-million 2010 bond and in partnership with CPS Energy, 800 solar panels are being installed at the Alamo Heights High School and 1,200 panels are going on Woodridge Elementary at a cost of $3.2 million. First, St. Luke's Episcopal Church & School, and the City of Olmos Park want to help take back Olmos Park from the offenders. Rev. Read has offered the church as our meeting place for the seminar. Chief Pruitt of Alamo Heights is also glad to get involved.  There has been no response from Terrell Hills or Alamo Heights City Managers or Mayors, but hopefully they will join in soon.

Alamo Heights linebacker Skylar Nelson, who has been committed to New Mexico State since December, will instead sign with the Roadrunners, Heights coach Don Byrd said Tuesday. In tribute to South Texas' fallen troops

The San Antonio Express-News publishes a tribute each year to the military men and women from South Texas who died while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

This year's Valero Alamo Bowl will begin with a stirring tribute to fallen U.S. troops, including one with close ties to the game.


Helmets worn by Baylor and Washington players will bear a sticker with a Marine Corps logo and "BWS" in honor of Lance Cpl. Benjamin Whetstone Schmidt, a San Antonian who died Oct. 6 in Afghanistan. His father, Dr. David Schmidt, is the 2011 bowl chairman. (read more).

Former President Bill Clinton presented the mother of a fallen San Antonio Marine with a Purple Heart on Monday night in Little Rock, Ark.

Becky Whetstone, whose son, Lance Cpl. Benjamin Whetstone Schmidt, was killed Oct. 6 in Afghanistan, said she was grateful for the posthumous honor bestowed on her son by Clinton, a "family friend." (read more).
