Olmos Park: An Update on Our Forgotten Treasure

First, St. Luke's Episcopal Church & School, and the City of Olmos Park want to help take back Olmos Park from the offenders. Rev. Read has offered the church as our meeting place for the seminar. Chief Pruitt of Alamo Heights is also glad to get involved.  There has been no response from Terrell Hills or Alamo Heights City Managers or Mayors, but hopefully they will join in soon.

Something smells in the Olmos Basin

SAN ANTONIO -- The Olmos Basin may look beautiful, but some News 4 WOAI viewers say it smells really, really bad.

"The smell of sewage is overwhelming," Robert Baron told us. "And I looked at the stream and the banks are all stained black, with uh, raw sewage. There's a film floating on the water." (read more and see video).

OP roundabout fixes are coming

Olmos Park will soon apply short-term fixes to its roundabout fountain at Hildebrand and McCullough avenues with an eye toward permanent solutions.

Since the city installed it at a cost of $100,000 in private and public funds three years ago, the roundabout has been the site of car accidents and has fallen into a state of disrepair. Water conservation measures have forced the stoppage of water flow at the fountain, further compounding conditions. (read more).

City Council voted in June to remove all board members following polarized public reaction to the EDC's vision plan for the McCullough Avenue business corridor. (read more).

Olmos Park seeks to protect fountain

The city of Olmos Park wants a professional to help suggest how to better protect a roundabout fountain and how to make things safer for motorists who approach the beleaguered traffic device.

City Council voted 4-1 Aug. 18 to have City Manager Mike Simpson seek out an expert, such as a traffic engineer, at a cost not exceeding $5,000. (read more).
