Several audience members applauded after Terrell Hills City Council voted Monday to schedule an $8 million bond election for Nov. 2.
Before the vote, council heard a few concerns from other residents, who weren't quite so sure about the bond, which allocates $6 million for road repairs and $2 million for renovation and remodeling of the existing City Hall complex. (read more).
Some local homeowners are out tens of thousands of dollars after a previously successful remodeling business suddenly closed down.
Casa Linda remodeling shut its doors recently on San Pedro Avenue, leaving an empty parking lot and some customers with empty wallets.
Bill and Debbie Sherman's wanted to renovate their home. They signed a $72,200 contract for a makeover with Casa Linda on March 8 and work began in April. (read more).

As the founder of Bike World and a cycling enthusiast for many years, Terrill Hills resident Whit Snell has noticed some changes in motorists' mentality locally over the years.
“I have several friends that we ride our bikes in the morning, have for years, and it seemed like we'd been having a lot of close calls lately (with motorists),” he recalled. (read more).

At 92 years old, Edith McAllister has lived in her 98-year-old house for 60 years.
And if you ask McAllister about her Terrell Hills house, which was built by Dr. Frederick Terrell and designed by Alfred Giles, she’ll tell you grand stories about the history of her home and the neighborhood.
But she’ll also tell you about some cutting-edge solar arrays she recently had installed. “It’s an investment in the planet,” McAllister said. “It’s an example of what you can do, even with an old house.” (read more).

The Terrell Hills Police Department had a bit of excitement to share with the audience at the July 12 City Council meeting.
According to Police Chief Greg Whitlock, a burglary that “could have gone bad quickly, but didn't,” occurred at 2:30 p.m. July 1 in the usually quiet, low-crime city. The crime took place in the 400 block of Wiltshire.
Terrell Hills police recovered all property and arrested the suspects. The dicey part, Whitlock said, was maintaining the safety of a 17-year-old young woman in the house at the time of the burglary. (read more).

Terrell Hills City Council plans within the next month to consider setting a multi-million-dollar bond election for Nov. 2, a referendum that calls for renovating and expanding City Hall and for select road repairs.
Council members have spent the last few months pondering the potential bond issue. One town hall meeting on the city's discussions was held June 28 and a second meet starts at 6:30 p.m. next Monday at St. David's Episcopal Church, 1300 Wiltshire. (read more).

Terrell Hills City Council on June 14 passed an ordinance prohibiting raising livestock within city limits and also establishes a facility where officers can deliver wandering dogs.
“They won't have to ride for hours in the patrol car, anymore,” Police Chief Greg Whitlock said.
According to Whitlock, the question of keeping farm animals in the city is a real issue, mostly due to two conflicting statements in a city ordinance written in the 1950s. (read more).

The city of Terrell Hills announced June 15 it has chosen the Blackboard Connect mass notification platform, enhancing communication and emergency preparedness.
With the Blackboard Connect platform, city officials can directly notify, update and provide direction to the community in an efficient, timely manner, should a need arise, according to a press release. (read more).

A shelter for stray animals is on hold for at least another month, Terrell Hills officials said.
An agreement with the Alamo Heights Kennel Club to board loose pets picked up by the Terrell Hills Police Department was still being studied by an AHKC attorney at the time of the May 10 Terrell Hills City Council meeting.
Terrell Hills Police Chief Greg Whitlock said if the agreement is approved, the city will have a place to deposit wandering animals, 24/7, “other than the garage.” (read more).
Law enforcement officers from all over this area got some all-too rare recognition today. Inspector Vincent Bellini and Sgt. William Foley of the Terrell Hills Police Department were honored as top law enforcement officers of the year. They were tops among more than twenty nominated from the local, county, state, federal and military honored at the 20th Annual Law Enforcement Awards by the American Society for Industrial Security. Road construction on North New Braunfels Avenue has become such a headache for Terrell Hills residents that Alamo Heights Assistant City Manager/Public Works Director Shawn Eddy was invited to the April 12 City Council meeting for an explanation.
Eddy said Alamo Heights is doing an overlay, which will not only be “nice looking,” it will have a better drainage profile to keep water from pooling.
He said Alamo Heights new water tower is scheduled to be finished this summer. New water and sewer lines where necessary, and sidewalks on Broadway are in the works, he added. (read more).

Terrell Hills City Council has until August to call an $8 million bond election in November.
One City Council member said city officials could use the two required public hearings to educate voters as to why the funds are needed for City Hall construction and renovations, and street repairs, while keeping the effective property tax rate the same. (read more).
